Jelena Repac

Jelena Repac was born on February 28, 1990, in Trebinje, Republika Srpska (BiH). In 2008, she enrolled at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, in the Molecular Biology and Physiology program, which she completed in 2012 with an average grade of 9.76. In 2013, she completed her master’s studies at the same faculty, specializing in Biophysics, with an average grade of 9.86. That same year, she enrolled in interdisciplinary doctoral studies in Biophysics at the University of Belgrade, and in 2017, she defended her doctoral dissertation titled “Bioinformatic Analysis of Transcriptional Initiation Mechanisms in Bacterial ECF σ Factors,” under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Marko Đorđević and Dr. Magdalena Đorđević.

Since March 2015, she has been employed at the Faculty of Biology. Jelena Repac’s scientific research focuses on bioinformatic analysis of gene expression regulation in bacteria and bacteriophages. She is currently involved in research related to CRISPR/Cas systems, aiming to predict and analyze small RNA molecules—carriers of important regulatory and effector roles in the system. She publishes and presents the results of her research in international journals and conferences. She has also enhanced her skills by attending international summer schools in the fields of bioinformatics and systems biology. She was awarded the prize for the best scientific research work by a young researcher at the Faculty of Biology for the year 2016.
